Social media era almost passed me by

While I was busy, on a lot of things aside working, the way how the internet and web connects people is changing. Five years ago Friendster for me is the most sociable thing that ever happened on the web. Imagine a friend can post testimonials about how cool you are and such a nice person. But thinking about it now, I know the expression I would get from you is this :| (a straight face). But you have to admit it, it's really a huge thing back then.

Then multinational companies begins to see these social tools as counter productive, so they blocked them off from their network using enterprise class web filtering software. A huge number of workforce (including me) was locked in, while the outside world are connecting and enjoying the evolution of social media, I was locked in, busy, working. Everyone else has a Facebook and Twitter account and I didn't bothered having one cause I also think these are time wasters.

Until a month ago I opened a Facebook account, for the single purpose of selling something. I know it's kinda self serving, but that's how I got hooked. The more I connect to people, the more I see its value. A decade ago, its all about how good you are and how much you know. Now its about to what extent are you connected to everyone and how much have you shared of what you know.

This website that I have will be my means of sharing what I know about web 2.0, social media and web technologies. Having experience on web programming help me do almost anything I want on my website, such as broadcasting this blog post to all social media networks (facebook, twitter, linkedin, myspace, multiply, AIM, skype, etc.) in REAL TIME as I hit the publish button of my favorite CMS (Drupal). Cool huh?! We'll that will be another story and I'll share it on my next blog post. Hopefully on my next post, I'll be able to share something useful. For now I'd like to test if this will get posted on my FB, twitter and linkedin account. Here goes nothing... < click! >

Hey Randall, It's true how

Hey Randall,
It's true how the corporate world with all it's firewalls and blocked sites have prevented us from witnessing the social media explosion happening everyday. Good thing we woke up in time.
